Disaster Recovery for NetApp Storage
Managed Data Storage provide two methods to cope with disaster recovery as part of the MDS Backup service.
Departmental Recovery
Where there is a large amount of data to restore in a short space of time. For example, if a major critical server has failed, a call can be made to Managed Data Storage any time, day or night, to instigate a copy of data to the recovery filer.
The recovery filer is sized to accommodate the largest server the customer has or is likely to have during the term of the contract. A recovery filer is housed in each local datacentre and upon instruction Managed Data Storage start the copy of the volume specified.
Simultaneously, an engineer is called out to arrive at the local datacentre, take the recovery filer and connect at the your site to allow the restore to take place at Gb line speeds. The engineer is available for help and advice during this period. Once complete the filer data is deleted on-site and returned back to the local datacentre, available for use once more.
Full Site Recovery
The 3rd method of data recovery occurs when a huge amount of data has been lost, bigger than could be accommodated by the recovery filer. Reasons for this vary, but can be virus attacks, theft, fire, flood, internal sabotage, hackers or terrorism.
A number of disaster recovery Filers are held at key locations by Managed Data Storage. These are high performance capacity units reviewed regularly to cope with the highest possible level of disaster recovery.
A call can be made to Managed Data Storage any time, day or night, for the disaster recovery filer to be taken to your chosen UK location. You then have the option of copying data onto replacement storage and leaving it on-site for up to 60 days, or purchasing the NetApp filer at a pre-agreed price directly.
